Final Super Saturday of 2015

As we prepare for our final Super Saturday tournament I would like to say that we had another amazing outing last weekend.  Everyone performed exceptionally well and we need to keep that momentum going for our final weekend.  This coming Saturday, 1/31/15, will be at Ardsley with a 9:15 check in and 10:00 am start, we will go 4 rounds and will include JV fencers as well.  We should be finished around 4:30.

Tomorrow, 1/29/15, we will be holding a practice for all those who are able to attend from 12:00 - 3:00 in the small gym.  If you are not planning on attending practice please be sure to bring home all your gear from school tomorrow as we are expecting more snow on Friday.

We have had a great season and we will continue with normal practices through most of February.  We will also continue fencing in the off season at Peekskill Fencing, with that being said, if you are currently a Freshman, Sophomore or Junior and are planning on fencing with us during the off season and are using equipment belonging to the team, Alex and I will be allowing people to keep their equipment at home with them if you wish.  We will be handing out within the upcoming weeks an agreement for parents to sign allowing you to hold onto the gear.

We will also be in contact regarding a required service project and our end of the year dinner.

Hope everyone gets lots of rest after mid terms and we look forward to a great Super Saturday at Ardsley.

Thank You,
Shannon and Alex

Super "SUNDAY" 1/25/15

Reminder tomorrow our Super Sunday is at Woodlands High School.  The address for all those that are driving is 475 W. Hartsdale Avenue, Hartsdale, NY 10530.  We have a 10:15 check in with an 11:00 start, we are only fencing 3 rounds so we should still be done by 3:30.  Please be sure to get lots of rest tomorrow is a very important day for our league standings.

For those of you riding the bus, we will be leaving Lourdes at 9:00am, based on how many kids responded to me we have reserved a small bus.  Below is who I have riding the bus:

Andrew, Nicholas Paradie, John Martin, Nate Borst, Emma, Rochelle, Yuqi, Jonathon Long, Chris and AJ.

We will be having practice this coming week.  However, due to mid terms and time for studying we will let you know when practice will be so that we can still be ready for next Saturday but also no stress for exams.   We are looking at having our normal practice days from 12-3 with "optional" practices.

We look forward to seeing you all tomorrow and enjoy your snow day.

1/21/15 Scrimmage with Arlington at OLL

Just a reminder that we will be holding a scrimmage against Arlington tomorrow beginning at 3:30 at Lourdes in the small gym (aka gym #2).  We will be having regular practice on Thursday and we will be having practice at Peekskill Fencing from 11:30 - 3:30 on Saturday.

We are all set for a bus for Sunday, please let me know by Thursday if you will be taking the bus.  This is very important as we have been getting small buses and last week if we had one more person we would not have all fit.

Please remember to bring all your gear tomorrow including your socks and t-shirts to be worn with your fencing uniform.  Also please remember that all your gear MUST go home with you after practice on Thursday evening.

This coming weekend our tournament will be at Woodlands High School which is in Hartsdale start time is 9:30 we will be fencing 3 rounds.

NY State Section 1 Fencing League League Championships Round 1 Results and Standings

League Standings 1/18/2015

We received our league standings this morning.  I have attached the email from the league showing how we are doing.  With that being said, it is apparent that our boys foil team needs some work.  Next Saturday, we will be practicing at Peekskill fencing from 11:30 - 3:30.  We would love to have as many as our team members as possible come to this practice as the next 2 weeks are crucial for our standings.

Also, I forgot to mention last night for Tuesdays practice and pictures please be sure to wear shorts so that you can put on your full fencing uniform for pictures.

Thank you and will see you all Tuesday,

Shannon Gauzza and Alex Acevedo

Great Job Fencers!

First let me begin by saying words can never express how proud we are of our entire team.  Their performance today in Clarkstown North was amazing, the support and enthusiasm they displayed was incredible and we made other teams envious.

For the upcoming week, again we will have our team photos on Tuesday 1/20, during our practice. Please come prepared with all your gear as well as your team socks.  I am attaching a copy of the photo form for those of you who may have misplaced yours, payment is due when photos are taken so please look at the photo form, pick your package and then put your money in an envelope (if you do not have your form) with your name on it.

Wednesday 1/21 we will have our scrimmage after school against Arlington.  This will be at Lourdes and as soon as I have definitive times from the athletic department I will forward them to everyone.

Our Super Saturday for Next weekend is now a Super Sunday.  For those of you who I did not get to speak to today, our tournament will now take place on Sunday January 25th at Woodlands High School.  This means that Saturday will be an off day, however we are planning on having a practice at Peekskill Fencing for anyone that is able to attend.  We have two super Saturdays remaining and are hoping to stay as strong as we are right now.

Lastly, anyone who may have taken photos today, Mrs. Grimaldi, who updates our Fencing Blog, would like you to email photos that she can upload, her email address is chrstnag@aol.com  For those of you who wish to subscribe to our blog for updates on upcoming events please go to the Lourdes Website, under athletics, click on fencing and there is a link for you to sign up.

Again, to not only our fencers but to all of you parents as well, we would like to express our gratitude for all you do for our team.  This would not all be possible without all your help and support..

Thank You,

Shannon Gauzza and Alex Acevedo

Super Saturday 1/17 @ Clarkstown North

Just a few reminders, tomorrow if you are riding the bus we are meeting at school at 6:30 am because we have an 8:00 am check in and a 9:00 start.  Anyone who left their bags in the cage after practice on Thursday, Alex has them they will be at Clarkstown on Saturday.

All fencers will be fencing on Saturday, so please be prepared with all your gear and same as last week please wear your Lourdes t-shirt, socks and jacket with shorts and pants over them.  Please remember that you are representing your school and please be sure your behavior reflects that.

Lastly, we are planning on going for dinner after the meet.  Please be sure to let me know asap if you will be joining us so that I can give an accurate number and find a place that can accommodate a large group.  Please also be sure that the children bring money with them, not only for dinner but also there will be a concession stand for them to purchase lunch if they do not wish to bring some from home.

For the upcoming week, we will have regular practice all 3 days this week, in addition our team pictures will be taken on Tuesday the 20th after school so please be sure that if your fencer is purchasing pictures they bring their completed form and money on that day.  On Wednesday, we will be having a scrimmage against Arlington at Lourdes after school.  Please make sure all fencers have their gear in school on Wednesday as well as their uniform (socks, t-shirt and Jacket).

Good luck this Saturday to everyone,

Shannon Gauzza and Alex Acevedo

FENCING CHRISTMAS PARTY 12/18/14

Hi Fencing Parents and Fencers,

We are having our annual Fencing Christmas Party this Thursday, December 18th, from 4 to 6pm. It will be held at school in the cafeteria.  We have 26 fencers this year! All parents are welcome to attend!

We had a very successful and memorable party last year. We will be doing the same this year. It's a wonderful time to get to know each other!  Each Fencing Family is as being asked to bring in a appetizer/dinner dish or dessert to share. We have use of the kitchen so we can reheat any food.  So please place food that has to be reheated in a metal tray. Please label the food clearly Fencing Team and place it in the Cafeteria Kitchen if you are dropping it off in the morning or during the day. We will need some parents to help to set up the food so please let me know if you can come early.

Please send me a return email with what you will be bringing so that I can coordinate the items. If you have any questions please call me 845-519-9712.

Looking forward to seeing you!
Thank you so much!

Dana Bortz (Diana's Mom)

Practice Schedule Week of 12/15 and Christmas Party

For the upcoming week, we will have our normal practice schedule on Monday 12/15 and Tuesday 12/16.  Hopefully, the athletic department will be able to reschedule our scrimmage with Arlington High School for Wednesday 12/17, at which time we will also have our team photos taken.  If anyone is in need of a new picture order form please let me know on Monday.

For Thursday, December 18th, we will have our practice from 3-4:00 and then we will be having our Fencing team Christmas party until 6:00.  All family members are invited to join the team for our celebration.  We are asking each member of the team to please bring a dish to share with everyone.  And please let us know (by emailing Shannon Gauzza at sgauzza@gmail.com) how many from your family will be attending so we can plan accordingly.

We have been in touch with the league and the Super Saturday tournaments are set for every weekend in the month of January starting on January 10th.  These are mandatory meets and all team members must attend.  We are not bused to these tournaments so, if needed, we will be putting together car pools.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions my cell phone number is (845) 721-2761 and my email is sgauzza@gmail.com

We look forward to seeing everyone on Thursday 12/18, and we wish you all a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Thank You,

Shannon Gauzza and Alex Acevedo
