Christmas Break Practices and Schedule for January

Hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas!  This is just a reminder that we do have practice on Monday (12/29) and Tuesday (12/30) at Lourdes from 10:00 - 1:00 in the cafeteria.  If the doors are locked please walk around the back to the cafeteria doors.

Also, The Peekskill Fencing Center will be closed next Saturday January 3rd so there will be no classes.

Our first Super Saturday is scheduled for January 10th at Nyack.  Usual start times are 9:00 am with check in at 8:30 and it usually ends around 4:00pm.  With this being saidm the week we come back from break is crucial to make sure everyone is prepared for competition.

For the remainder of the month of January the schedule is as follows:

January 17th - Clarkstown
January 25th - Nyack Fencing Academy ( Tappan Zee)
January 31st - Ardsley

with a snow date of February 7th if needed.

These are mandatory competitions, all team members are required to attend each and every super Saturday.  These again are mandatory, there is no exception.

Also for all new parents, there is no busing for these events so please advise if car pools are necessary so they can be planned well in advance of the scheduled events.

Thank You and we wish everyone a very Happy New Year.

FENCING CHRISTMAS PARTY 12/18/14

Hi Fencing Parents and Fencers,

We are having our annual Fencing Christmas Party this Thursday, December 18th, from 4 to 6pm. It will be held at school in the cafeteria.  We have 26 fencers this year! All parents are welcome to attend!

We had a very successful and memorable party last year. We will be doing the same this year. It's a wonderful time to get to know each other!  Each Fencing Family is as being asked to bring in a appetizer/dinner dish or dessert to share. We have use of the kitchen so we can reheat any food.  So please place food that has to be reheated in a metal tray. Please label the food clearly Fencing Team and place it in the Cafeteria Kitchen if you are dropping it off in the morning or during the day. We will need some parents to help to set up the food so please let me know if you can come early.

Please send me a return email with what you will be bringing so that I can coordinate the items. If you have any questions please call me 845-519-9712.

Looking forward to seeing you!
Thank you so much!

Practice Schedule Week of 12/15 and Christmas Party

For the upcoming week, we will have our normal practice schedule on Monday 12/15 and Tuesday 12/16.  Hopefully, the athletic department will be able to reschedule our scrimmage with Arlington High School for Wednesday 12/17, at which time we will also have our team photos taken.  If anyone is in need of a new picture order form please let me know on Monday.

For Thursday, December 18th, we will have our practice from 3-4:00 and then we will be having our Fencing team Christmas party until 6:00.  All family members are invited to join the team for our celebration.  We are asking each member of the team to please bring a dish to share with everyone.  And please let us know (by emailing Shannon Gauzza at sgauzza@gmail.com) how many from your family will be attending so we can plan accordingly.

We have been in touch with the league and the Super Saturday tournaments are set for every weekend in the month of January starting on January 10th.  These are mandatory meets and all team members must attend.  We are not bused to these tournaments so, if needed, we will be putting together car pools.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions my cell phone number is (845) 721-2761 and my email is sgauzza@gmail.com

We look forward to seeing everyone on Thursday 12/18, and we wish you all a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Thank You,

Shannon Gauzza and Alex Acevedo

First Week of Practice

We have completed our first week of practices which we feel went very well.  We have a great team going this year and are really excited about the upcoming season.  We just wanted to remind everyone to please send in your paperwork along with the fees required as soon as possible.  I will be submitting the order for the required Our Lady of Lourdes Uniform which is the t-shirt, socks and jacket this Wednesday so please make sure that the order form paper is submitted to me on Monday.

For the upcoming week, we will be practicing on Monday and that is it for this week.  Due to spike the teachers and the holiday we will not be meeting the remainder of the week.

Beginning in December, we will be having meets with Arlington High School's fencing team on Wednesday afternoons after school.  We have been in touch with Arlington's Athletic Director and will let everyone know a schedule as soon as we have one available.

We would also like to remind everyone that even though we are meeting through the week at school, we will also still be attending classes on Saturday's at Peekskill fencing center.  These are free classes available to our team and is a great opportunity to work on skill, get some one on one training and also the ability to fence other fencers to see different competition.  If you are interested we do put carpools together so please contact me and we will work that out.  Also, during the Christmas break we would like to do some team training at the Fencing Center to prepare for our super Saturday tournaments which begin in January.

Again, we look forward to a successful season, we wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving and we will see you all on Monday.

Thank you,

Shannon Gauzza and Alex Acevedo

Welcome to the 2014 Fencing Season

Welcome to the 2014 season.  In preparation for the upcoming season the team will be getting together on Saturday at Peekskill Fencing Center to attend classes and training from 11:30 - 2:30.  This is a great opportunity especially for new fencers to learn the basics of fencing and for the more experienced members of the team it is a great opportunity to refresh your skills.
There is no cost for the team to attend these classes and if any members are in need of a ride please let me know.  Many members of the team have been fencing all summer at the Peekskill Fencing Center and it is a great opportunity for the team to bond.
Please email back to let me know if you can or cannot attend (at sgauzza@gmail.com)  Also we are scheduled to begin regular season practices on November 17th at that time a schedule of Super Saturday tournaments will be handed out and any questions you may have can be addressed.
We look forward to a very successful upcoming season.
Thank You,

Shannon Gauzza

Our Lady of Lourdes Spirit Day - October 10, 2014

We have begun to prepare for our first fund raiser of the year.  Next Friday, October 10th, is Our Lady of Lourdes Spirit Day.  For this event the fencing team will be setting up a table and will be selling snacks, drinks and some food.

In order to make this fundraiser a success we are requesting as much assistance as possible from our team members.  We are looking for donations of any of the following items:

Gatorade ( individual bottles)
Cases of water
Individual bags of chips / snacks

We are also looking for any possible parent volunteers who would be available to help out that day with assisting with the table.

If you are able to assist in anyway please email sgauzza@gmail.com

Thank you again for all your continued support to make our team a success.

Off Season Training at the Peekskill Fencing Center

As we begin the new school year, we will continue to give every fencer the opportunity to have a productive off-season at Peekskill Fencing Center. We will try to carpool to Peekskill at least twice a month until the season begins, depending on the number of interested fencers able to attend.

We will have a carpool from Beacon train station this Saturday, September 13th, at 10:45 AM, and we will return at Beacon train station around 3:00 PM. My mother will be able to drive for this Saturday. We will be attending classes from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm.  If you would like to attend and or help with transportation, please contact Chris Amalathas at ollfencing14@gmail.com.

Peekskill Fencing Center does not charge Our Lady of Lourdes fencers, and they provide all equipment. We encourage that you bring a snack and water.

Reminder: There will be an upcoming tournament to raise money for the team on October 25th. We encourage as many team members to attend, and sign ups are available at Peekskill Fencing Center.

Looking forward to seeing you all soon,

Chris Amalathas
